WE ARE BACK!

WE ARE BACK!

Just like the title says…….We are back!

Maybe you already know, but if you didn’t we have each had another baby boy this year and since we last blogged!

We are adjusting to our new normals as mothers of tow. Working out slash running is once again a part of our lives, however, it looks a lot different than when we had one kid.

But can we all agree that a happy mom is very important so bring on the workouts!?

In a giant leap of faith we have decided to dream big for us and our families by joining with other women who want change. What is that change you ask?

We are happy to announce we have joined Beautycounter.

If we are being real, 2017 has ben a very bittersweet year that has brought new levels of sadness neither one of us has ever known. Each of us has had either a parent or a close friend battle cancer this year which has really renewed a desire in both of us to clean up our lives as much as possible. For most people this begins with one aspect of their life and expands from there. Personally, for both of this stage one was food and even more so by our recent completion of Whole30 in October (more on that in a different post). The second stage for both of us was switching over household cleaners to less toxic ingredients and now we are officially switching our beauty products.

A pic of our older dudes in case you forgot what they look like 😉

We are passionate about this change for us personally, our immediate families, extended families, our friends and anyone willing to listen. With cancer hitting home to both of us this year we want to do all that we can to eliminate cancer causing ingredients from even coming in contact with touching our skin and that is where Beautycounter comes in for us.

Beautycounter not only wants to empower people to change their lives with better beauty products but by also getting out there and fighting change legislation in our country that severely outdated.

All of this to say, 2017 has thrown us a lot of curveballs but we are doing all that we can do to reclaim this year and make something GREAT of it!

Goals? Resolutions? Forward Progress!

Goals? Resolutions? Forward Progress!

We haven’t in the past put New Year’s Resolutions on the blog.  Remember how we use to do monthly goals?

The monthly goals were good, but there seems to be some sort of balance between New Year’s resolutions and monthly goals we need to find. However, we have decided this year to put our New Year’s resolutions out there. Maybe we’ll do a quarterly check in to see how we are doing?

Here goes nothing….

Teal’s Resolutions:

1. More yoga.  My favorite yoga instructor is back at my gym two days a week so I would like to start going back to that. On days that I cannot I have 4 videos that he made that I would like to do from home. This goal is easy to accomplish since I basically did little yoga last year so I would like to say a minimum for 4 days a week even if it’s just 30 minutes. So far, on January 9th, I have kept that!

2. More running.  I would like to beat each month’s mileage by at least 1 mile. I would also like to run under a 2 hour half marathon because well… after 23 of these bad boys I still haven’t done that, I have gotten close but not under 2. Running is way more difficult to fit in with a baby so I will have to be pretty strategic about this and be fine with just going out and running 1 mile if that is all I can get.

Thanks to the ladies of Tone It Up we will both be using this to help jumpstart our running this new year!

Thanks to the ladies of Tone It Up we will both be using this to help jumpstart our running this new year!

3. Less mess. I know that sounds like a goal for a 5 year old, but I have this HORRIBLE problem of dropping everything on the floor or leaving it on the counter because I am busy or tired. I want to stop this. If I have a dish I am done with I want to get it put away or clean it, and other things like stop leaving my shoes everywhere (my parents have been hounding me about this since I was 7) but really what this will accomplish is less overall cleaning time. If I just do it then it won’t pile up, and I hope that this gives me more time.

4. More prep.  This means more than just my food. I would like to prep breakfast and lunch for work each week at a minimum. I should maybe blog about this too to keep me on track and help other people to see what I do?!  I would also just like to have a system with stuff and just getting out of the house. I have so much to deal with on a daily basis with breastfeeding, working a full time and a small part time job, running, working out, baby, life… I mean you get it. But sometimes I don’t do things because I am not prepared enough to actually do that. When I figure out a system I will fill you in!

5. More snail mail. This includes birthday cards, Valentine’s cards, thank you notes, Christmas cards, random letters. I like this and love getting “non-bill” mail. This also just goes along with number 4.Plus I know an awesome graphic designer that can help me out with this!

6. More muscles. So I am back to pre- pregnancy weight but it’s, well… NOT THE SAME. So I would have made this  a “less weight” goal, which still might happen but I really would just like some things to go back to how they were before, so I’m gonna just go with more muscle. And this might mean working out from home more because I really haven’t figured out how to get to my trainer more than 1 day a week and still get to see my baby after work.

7. Less excuses. Let’s face it, if I have less excuses than maybe the above 6 goals will actually work!

Beth’s Resolutions:

1. Be more prepared. Over the holidays there were a couple times I was scrambling for things when I shouldn’t have waited until the last minute.  These days waiting until the last minute is soooo not a good option because, well, (a) it stresses me out more and (b) it means sometimes things won’t get accomplished that have to get accomplished.

2. Complete a self created 30 day yoga challenge. Our friend Drum talked about how she had started her own 60 day yoga challenge which sent all sorts of inspiration my way.  She basically put all the tools I’ve been needing to really dive into a practice on my own in my hands. (Thank you so much for that Drum!)

FullSizeRender (1)

Ashtanga Yoga: The Practice Manual by David Swenson is the book I’ll be utilizing for my challenges

3. Complete a self created 60 day yoga challenge.  Because these are my goals for the entire YEAR, I’m committing myself to two different yoga ones.

4. Run 900 miles. Ultimately I want a 1,000 mile year, but I’m afraid to fail and my highest mileage year to date has been 728.1 miles in 2013. I actually had to go back through my runkeeper records and learned that I had run over 700 miles. Originally I was going to say 750 and maybe I still should, but let’s try 900 this year. I’d like to bring consistency to my running as well so here’s to hoping this helps!

5. Run an under 2 hour half again. A goal to keep me motivated in my running! I’ve done it before pre-pregnancy and I’d like to do it again post pregnancy!

There you have it, folks! We’ll check back in with you and let you know how we are doing!

Again, Happy New Year!

LiAR Do It Yourself Headboards

LiAR Do It Yourself Headboards

Remember when we use to do monthly goals?! Well, that kind of went out the window some when we were both pregnant because we were either trying to hide that we were pregnant and having fake goals and real goals at once is hard OR we can’t always control when some goals get done.  Case in point would be headboards! 🙂

So in 2014 we both spent a lot of time getting things done with our husbands before the babies came so that we could be as ready and as prepared as we could possibly be or so we thought.

Back to “we can’t always control when goals get done,”  Teal had made “make a headboard” one of her monthly goals once upon a time, but since neither of us have really cut wood ourselves and fully assembled a furniture piece we weren’t going to be able to tackle this specific project alone.  We both wanted to make headboards and finally back in January with some help we did!

Here are our instructions for how to construct a DIY Headboard:

Step 1: Have a person like Beth’s SIL who can do wood crafts.

IMG_2125

Step 2: Buy wood from Home Depot or some similar type store (what kind of wood? We don’t know that silly!)

Step 3: Have the actual piece of wood that will span the height and width of your headboard cut into the correct height and width dimensions (again we don’t know the precise numbers)

Step 4: Get handy dandy SIL to use a circle saw to cut the 4x4s (oh, hey! We bought 4x4s) you bought to create the headboard legs and to cover the width of the headboard.

IMG_2131

Step 5: Connect large headboard piece and 4x4s
IMG_2133

IMG_2136
Step 6: Glue the foam piece handy dandy SIL and Beth’s sister pre-bought for everyone to the large headboard piece of wood.

IMG_2134

Step 7: Wrap headboard in the fabric you pre-bought for the making of headboards.

IMG_2139

Step 8: Use the nail gun to staple the fabric to the headboard. And voila!

IMG_2142

IMG_2146

Optional Step 9: Have a cute little kid test out the comfort of the headboard. 🙂

And now for the finished product all set up in our houses:

December Goals

December Goals

The post where we tell you what we hope to accomplish throughout this month. 🙂

Teal –

1. Run the Dallas Half Marathon and be happy about it! It will make me tired, it will not be super fast, the weather gods are clearly against us at the current moment, and I probably would rather sleep and stay warm in my bed that day ( I still get chills thinking about 2011, and the news said worst weather ever) NO MORE WATCHING THE NEWS! I want to run this and be happy about it at the end, enjoy each mile and the scenery, not annoy myself, and be super ready to cheer on Beth and Catherine for their last 13 when I am done!

photo (14) 2

2. House-wise I would like to finish the kitchen windows which I didn’t do last month. This involves finding fabric and making the window cornices Beth has made and Kate featured on her blog!

3. UHHH Christmas shop? When did it become December and why is Christmas 3 weeks away already? I am such a slacker at this every year and if you have been reading a while I am pretty certain I had to make decorate a goal last year because I have been known to skip it, so I’ll go ahead and add that in there.

4. I want to continue one long run a week regardless of when the next race is. For me long is now about 9 miles and one mid-week run of at least 4-5. Everything else (cross training, spin, Stairmaster) I will call icing on the cake!

5. BLEACHERS! 1 day a week. This involves walking them unlike before! Get there one day. This makes your booty hurt more than anything I do in life. Must get there.

Bleacher pic from Melissa 2

Beth –

1. Ok, I’m copying Teal on this….run the Dallas Marathon and be happy that you have the ability to run 26.2 miles!

2. Hang shelf in our dining room so the clock has some company on the wall!

3. Make my own Christmas wreath for our front door.

4. Keep up with running after Dallas Marathon (you know after a couple of rest days).

5. Attempt to complete my goodreads goal of 26 books in 2013.  What should I read this month?! I’m currently reading How to Eat a Cupcake by Meg Donohue.

6. I think I should also tag-a-long and do some bleachers with Teal. Don’t you think so?

It is crazy that 2013 is about to come to a close on us! What are trying to accomplish this month?

November Report Card

November Report Card

Teal-

1. Basically because my last month’s goals are a continuing struggle I am rolling all of those forward as well and will keep working on it.

B+: I am still not logging my food everyday as I used to but I am drinking all my water, I have stopped eating the 800 sweets I was eating at the beginning and I am all over eating better with meals not totally prepped but at work and ready to eat. I think this is just because I am WAYYYY less tired than I was even last month! Yea for that! And I will continue to work on this big time as the months move on being pregnant! I really don’t want to go crazy although it’s a struggle. I want to eat all the time!

2. You might have figured out by now that that room I was working on 2 months ago is the room the baby is going to live it when she gets here. I NEED to clean that completely out so that the construction guys can come in and replace all the walls and ceiling and I would like that to get taken care of by the end of this month. So FOR REAL this time, GET THE BACK ROOM CLEANED OUT!

A: DONE! Finally! Well except for that ottoman in the middle, it is actually sold just waiting for it to get picked up! The room has been de-cluttered and the stuff is now organized in other parts of the house, donated or trashed! Thank you Thanksgiving break!  Also, which I was not expecting to get done this month, is the walls. They were torn down due to issues with patching, an old roommate’s hanging abilities, and a foundation repair; they just needed to come out. They are out, and news walls are in, textured, and primed. They are not painted because I have no clue what the colors will be in there. This is huge progress!! I am the most pumped about this being “done!”

nov rep card 1

nov rep card 2

3. Choose a new paint color and fabric for the kitchen. They are coming in to remodel the kitchen within the next 3 to 4 weeks and I really want to learn how to make Roman shades for the 4 windows in my kitchen. It is too ambitious for me to say I will actually make the shades this month, but the goal is to get everything ready for them.

B-: Paint was chosen and actually painted, but I have not made it to the store to look at fabric. I also have changed my mind and will make the cornice things like Beth and her sister Kate have done in their homes. Yep just call me copy cat! But I like!!

nov rep card 3

Beth –

1. Stop letting your car be a gym bag! I am not even posting a picture of this because it embarrasses me and no, Teal, will not take a picture and upload it here. :)

A: Totally got my car cleaned up!  Of course it helped that we decided Brent would drive my car on a weekend trip he was taking.  I even ordered this handy dandy trunk organizer to help me out.  Thanks to Teal for that idea!

IMG_1386[1]

2. Yoga twice a week!

F: I guess I’ll go with that as I did once a week! Yay, I did half of what I meant to do.

3. READ!! This month I’m going to need to read 3 books in order to catch up!  The book club selection for November is Ladies’ Night by Mary Kay Andrews.

D-: I don’t know if that should even be what I give myself.  Apparently with marathon training I slack big time on my reading.  I didn’t even finish Ladies’ Night in time for book club.  BUT I did finish it and started another book before the month was over. 🙂  Well, and I still have started Allegiant just haven’t finished it………….

ladies night

4. Buy fabric for the master bath and make another DIY window cornice!

A+: Bought the fabric and this past weekend when my beloved Aggies were making me nervous in their game against Mizzou I made the cornice for our bathroom.  We just have such big windows in our house it almost looks dinky up there, doesn’t it??

IMG_1387[1]

Joint Goal –

Have pictures done and Christmas cards from Kate ordered!!  Who doesn’t love supporting local? Kate is a Dallasite that is an awesome graphic designer, so we can’t wait to work with her to design Christmas cards for each of us this year!

We are both going to go with C on this one.  Teal wasn’t able to get the picture part done in the month of November due to work.  Beth decided to get more people involved in family photos, got it scheduled and done.  We both have also given Kate our design ides for our cards and we both just have to get a picture off to her.  Hooray for progress!

November Goals

November Goals

Oopsies, we are almost half way through the month, but we have already been working towards our goals for November and here’s what they are:

Teal-

1. Basically because my last month’s goals are a continuing struggle I am rolling all of those forward as well and will keep working on it.

2. You might have figured out by now that that room I was working on 2 months ago is the room the baby is going to live it when she gets here. October Report Card

October Report Card

Let’s just get straight to the grades here….

Teal –

1.Log food in myfitnesspal EVERYDAY. You should follow me! I will follow you, we can keep each other accountable! I am teal0996 on there.

B: pretty half and half here and this will continue to be a goal!

2.  Wake up 4 mornings per weekday and workout, even if it is just 30 minutes. Choose 1 day to take off.

C: on the waking up but A on the working out 4 times a week! I have been having issues waking up, I had a week of time where I kept waking up at 1:30am and was up for about 3 hours so getting up at 5:30 was not going to work. I seriously hope this gets better and has only happened a few more times. I have either gone at night or done my yoga videos at home!

3.  Prep meals. I use to do this religiously and haven’t… hence the Mexican food twice in one day!

B: Sorta? I didn’t prep like I used to, I more or less bought the stuff and took it all to work and made my lunches there. However, I would do that and decide I didn’t want to eat any of it and ate other things instead on some of the days. I did make one run to Fuzzy’s and one run to Quiznos (which I left on top of my car as I drove off). Other than that I did pretty well with this!

4.  Minimum of 64oz of water daily. I need more because I am so active but I am not even getting 64… must fix.

A+: Pretty much nailed this thanks to my ginormous Buccees’s cup and the 800 water bottles at work!

bucees

5.  If I am going to eat a cookie it can only be 1 and when I say cookie I also mean any other sugary treat that I feel like I can’t live without.  Just 1, not 4, not 7, not the entire box, just 1. I say this because if I say absolutely no to these treats I really will eat them all.

B: Well I can say I really didn’t eat any cookies, I did eat ice cream and Peanut butter M&M’s shhhhhhhhh but even with that said I have done much better on the sweets part. That was what I wanted to eat for a while, all bad things. The sight of asparagus one day made me gage and my usual salad for lunch was gross. I am having to employ a ton of will power here but it seems to be getting better!

[Side note: isn’t it kind of funny to see this last goal now that you know Teal is pregnant??]

Beth –

1.  Pretty much since I’m in that book club now and I have a reading goal for this year on goodreads.com I’m just going to make y’all read every month about my goals.  I’m super pumped because the third book in the Divergent series comes out this month and I canNOT wait to read it! :)  So this will at least be one of my two books to read this month.

F: A big giant F for this one.  I did not complete any books this past month. WHO AM I?!?! I started both Serena and Allegiant, but haven’t finished either. So disappointed in myself. *hangs head in shame*

2.  I’m still working towards an organized home… :)  Will I ever accomplish this? I have a collection of boxes in three different places right now and my goal is to go through them, throw things away and either put the leftovers in the attic or some other place they can live.

C-: I’m going to go with that grade because there were 5 boxes total and I cleaned out 3 of them. Ugh, I need to get rid of more stuff!  I also feel like this will never stop being a work in progress for me.

3.  This goal basically let’s you know I did not meet a goal last month, so again this month I shall make a window treatment for at least one of the three windows in my house I have fabric to do said project! I’m going to do it!

A+: I DID IT! Like I said I have three windows I was needing (and wanting) to make window treatments for and follow in my sister’s DIY steps from her blog.  I have one not very wide bathroom window that I had forgotten to get fabric for, one kind of regular width laundry room window that I had fabric for and then one large kitchen window that I have fabric for.  I went with the medium size project here and got my laundry room window accessorized with it’s very own cornice and thanks to Brent for helping this shorty hang it up!  I’m now re-thinking if a cornice for our kitchen window is really the way to go.

cornice

4. Yoga! Is it annoying that I keep just repeating goals?! I really want to make sure I’m getting in yoga during my marathon training because I know it’ll be soooo beneficial come December 8th when I’m taking on those 26.2 miles at Dallas Marathon!

B-: I went four times. Haha, hooray, for that number not being 0.

How did your October goals go??

September Report Card

September Report Card

Teal –

1. Clean out the back bedroom. Just look at this mess. Enough said and now I am sufficiently embarrassed!

B-: even though it looks like I actually did nothing I did a bunch, hence the decent grade. I got a lot of crap moved out, donated, or reorganized into another room but in the process I moved more things in here. I really need to deal with the fact that my house has no storage and toss some stuff but I am still working on finding homes for things. I’ll continue but I have made progress.

10082013 2

2.  Join Soul Motivation yoga and go 2 times per week. I used to do yoga at 24 Hour Fitness with the guy (Joseph) who now owns Soul Motivation. He left 24 Hour obviously but I have so missed him. It’s pretty far from my house but it’s worth it. Just need to get my butt up there.

B-: Apparently I like this grade today. I am not going to join now because I haven’t been able to actually get there. It’s kinda far from my house and its smack dab in the middle of 635 construction (I’m thinking summer time) and I leave work at all weird hours, I decided to buy his DVD’s. I have heard awesome things about them from his former yogis, so I figured I would try that instead for now. I am still going to try and make the Friday community classes for just $5 and the occasional Saturday for $7 if my dad lets me off early from work! I just got the DVDs yesterday so I’ll let you know how they go!

10082013 1

3. Make healthy popsicles! I am in a search for healthy popsicle recipes! I know summer is basically over but its Texas so I still have awhile! I bought super cool Popsicle molds like a month ago and have not even attempted to use them. This must change!

A: Made them and they are good, kinda tart but good.

10082013 6

(one cup plain Greek yogurt, one pint blueberries, one cup of strawberries, juice of 5 lemons, tablespoon of honey- mix in blender, poor in container, freeze, eat) You can probably use less of each thing because I actually had about a cup too much for my containers.

Beth –

1. Our house is still a work in progress obviously and I’m pretty positive every month for awhile I could work on a new house project.  This month my house project is to actually make window treatments for at least one window.  I have fabric for two and then remember I wanted to make some for a third window as well.  So I’m starting small with one window and hope I actually accomplish more.

F: My windows are still verrrrryy lonely! 🙁

2. Read two books.  On goodreads I set a challenge of reading 26 books this year and have been on track or ahead by just a liiiittle bit all year long.  Need to keep that up. I also joined a book club a couple of months ago, so I’ll be reading Serena by Ron Rash as one of my books to be ready for our next meeting!

A+: I did it! I read two books except they weren’t the ones I told you about. Ha! Since we posted our goals so late into the month I’d already let my mind forget about the book club book I read for our meeting in early September.  We read Table for Seven by Whitney Gaskell for our September meeting so that was book number 1.  The second book I read before diving into October’s book (Serena) was The Likeness by Tana French.  I read her first book a couple of years ago and I keep trying to spread them out so I don’t run out of Tana French books to read. 🙂  Am I the only dork that does this??

3. YOGA!!  Still with the goals and needing to get them done!

B-: I’ve still been though I did slack off in the last week of September hence the somewhat lower score! 🙂

October Goals

October Goals

Don’t worry we’ll let you know how we did on those September goals soon, but in an effort to not delay putting out there what we want to accomplish in October we are getting these goals out there to the world.  Time to get busy!

What are you trying to accomplish this month??

August Report Card

Here’s how we measured up for the month of August!

Teal –

1.  I HATE doing weight lose goals because I always disappoint myself because my body clearly loves all of its fat (and you probably roll your eyes that this is another stupid weight goal), BUT this month is the month before my birthday and  IF I lost 5 pounds I would weigh what my goal was for 30. So it would have taken me until 31 and a rather roller coaster year for my weight but it would be off! SOOOOO there you go, lose 5 pounds and make my 30 year old goal weight (not really what I want in life just what I wanted at 30) but really do it at 31!

C- : I ultimately lost like 2.5 pounds if I get to count the morning weight! Hahaha.  We shall keep working on the forever struggle of being consistent, healthy, and fighting the fat gene!

2.  I changed my half marathon training plan slightly from Beth’s because I don’t want to burn myself out like I did last time so my goal is to make my runs! This is totally doable because I have basically started an “I am a newbie and haven’t run” training plan to not destroy my love of running again!

B: I have missed a few “short” runs but have been getting the longer ones in and loving my plan. I do not feel discouraged, slow, or overwhelmed by the plan. I know my next half marathons will not be my “fastest” but I am 100% ok with just enjoying the run!

Beth –

1.  To get up once a week and do a workout before work.  If you follow me on twitter you pretty much know that usually on Tuesday & Thursday mornings I am up at Private Training Zone by 6:00 a.m. to get in an hour of weights with Johnny and the other ladies in my workout group.  This goal would mean I have to get up an additional morning to do a workout on my own.  There was a time when I would do this with yoga, but that has been awhile and I know I just need to transition into this type of routine.  Let’s hope this makes a habit of it!

F: Haha, this one is gonna take a lot of work on my part.  I’ve reverted back lately to even having a hard time wanting to get out of bed for my Tuesday & Thursday mornings, but I do!  I did get up early in the first week of August, but it was to try and get a bunch of reading done for my book club. lol

2. Finish yet another project at our house.

A+: There are now two walls in my house that are no longer blank! Hooray!  I even bought some fabric for a window decoration project, but still have a few more supplies to get for that one!

09092013 2(1)

3. YOGA! Haha, my goals are back and the idea for this month is to get in at least 3 yoga classes a week. :)

C-: Ok, so there were two weeks where I didn’t go, BUT I still went to yoga 10 times throughout the month of August so that’s why I’m still giving myself a C range grade.  All things considered with Birthday celebrations and work picking up steam with busyness I’m proud of those 10.  I love me some yoga and glad I’m making it a priority during this marathon training cycle!
