That’s right we are talking about – alcohol!
When it comes to training for races do you normally give up drinking for a certain amount of time? Or just stick to your routine and maybe just have one drink the night before a race?
I’m sure you’ve noticed on our joint twitter account that we both enjoy a good happy hour, wine night or a drink with our significant other. You might especially notice this if you follow our personal twitter accounts. 🙂
Right now we are 7 days away from running our next half marathon and both will refrain from alcohol this week leading up to the big race! But we’d love to hear everyone’s own take on alcohol versus training!
With half marathon and marathon training I typically give up alcohol – especially the night before a training run. I’ve noticed my body can’t really handle liquor or wine and well and I try to stick to a beer when I do drink. Also since I don’t drink as much one beer has a bigger impact than it ever did, so I try to limit it. That’s not to say I won’t go out and have a martini or glass of wine – I just make sure that I have a few days between that and my long run. Race week I don’t touch a sip and that’s been pretty good for me.
We have 1/2’s on the same day! That’s exciting! This is my first time giving up alcohol for a race. Which is October 9th. I chose to do it 6 weeks out. The one benefit I have noticed…is not getting up too late or feeling sluggish from having a little too much the night before! You guys will do AWESOME next week! Get it ladies!
I’m training for my second full marathon and for the second time, I’ve given up alcohol. I really notice a change in my performance. Yeah, I’m not hungover at the start of a long run, but also I’m running faster than I did while training for smaller races where I still enjoyed a beer or two. It’s hard to give it up but the first sip after it’s all over is well worth it – even if the alcohol tolerance is very low by that point.
